At Last, A Sporty Zeitwinkel
Zeitwinkel, a Swiss watchmaker known for producing mechanical timepieces, has introduced a new model line called the 240°. The launch reflects the brand’s ongoing approach to blending traditional Swiss watchmaking techniques with practical, contemporary design. The 240° line is aimed at watch collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate mechanical precision and a clean, functional aesthetic.
The name 240° is derived from the arc that represents the brand’s philosophy: connecting traditional craftsmanship with modern watch design. This model line doesn’t aim to redefine watchmaking but rather offers a thoughtful extension of Zeitwinkel’s core principles. The series includes watches that are functional, reliable, and intentionally understated, intended for a wide range of wearers—from seasoned horology enthusiasts to those new to Swiss mechanical watches.
Design Approach
The 240° models emphasize straightforward, minimalist design. The watches feature clear, uncluttered dials, with legible indices and hands. The proportions of the case, dial, and components are carefully considered to achieve balance and simplicity. The overall look is inspired by classic Swiss timepieces but avoids excessive ornamentation, aligning with the brand’s aim to deliver practical and durable watches.
The models come in dial colors and case finishes – five total – maintaining the same minimalist aesthetic across the lineup. Dial colors include black, grey, blue, orange and red. The black dial includes a DLC-coated case – dubbed the 240º Noir – while the rest of the collection uses a grey PVD coating. The clean design is complemented by subtle detailing, such as polished or brushed finishes on the case, providing a refined yet utilitarian appearance.
In-house Movement
As with all of Zeitwinkel's offerings, the 240° line is powered by in-house mechanical movements. These movements are designed and manufactured by Zeitwinkel to ensure accuracy and longevity. The movements feature automatic winding, meaning the watches are powered by the wearer’s motion, reducing the need for manual winding.
Each watch in the line is equipped with high-performance components, such as a robust escapement and a precise balance wheel, which contribute to long-term reliability and consistent timekeeping. Zeitwinkel has also ensured that the movements are visible through the caseback, allowing owners to observe the inner workings of the watch. For the black 240º Noir, the movement features blacked-out plates and bridges – called ‘Black Or’ – to complete the look (pictured above).
The brand’s attention to mechanical integrity is evident in the precision of these movements, which are engineered for everyday wear without compromising on accuracy.
Material Selection and Construction
The cases of the 240° models are forged from stainless steel, chosen for its resilience and resistance to wear. Zeitwinkel applies a brushed or polished finish to the case, depending on the model, to enhance the overall look while maintaining durability. And the sapphire crystal used in the watches is highly scratch-resistant, ensuring clear visibility of the dial over time.
In keeping with Zeitwinkel’s approach to responsible production, the brand ensures that materials are sourced responsibly. The attention to detail in both material choice and construction reflects the brand’s focus on creating watches that are built to last.
Versatility & Wearability
The watches in the 240° model line are designed to be versatile, suitable for both casual and formal settings. The clean, neutral design allows these watches to pair well with a variety of styles, whether worn with business attire or more casual outfits. The different case finishes and strap options—ranging from leather to metal bracelets—further enhance the wearability of the 240° models.
Case Dimensions:
- Diameter: 40.5mm
- Height: 12.1mm
The comfort of the watch on the wrist is also taken into account, with ergonomic design ensuring a secure and unobtrusive fit. Zeitwinkel has aimed to create a series of watches that are functional for daily use while still reflecting the quality and precision expected from Swiss watchmaking.
