Fears Expands on Mother of Pearl with the Brunswick 38 Orchid

Fears has extended the Brunswick 38 range with the introduction of the Orchid, a new model that follows the success of the larger Brunswick 40 Aurora. The Brunswick 38 Orchid features a mother of pearl dial with a pale pink hue inspired by the Pink Cymbidium orchid. This model builds on the established Brunswick 38 design while introducing several updates, including enhanced water resistance, a new crown design, and an open caseback showcasing a high-grade mechanical movement.

Design & Materials

The centerpiece of the Brunswick 38 Orchid is its mother of pearl dial, sourced from the rare Pinctata Maxima oyster, which is found in the Asia-Pacific region. The dial is composed of two separate sections of this iridescent material. Each section is carefully cut and shaped before being hand-tinted with a pale pink varnish on the reverse side. This subtle tint brings out the natural shine and depth of the mother of pearl, creating a soft, reflective surface that catches the light in different ways depending on the angle.

The dial also features CNC-milled numerals in Fears’ custom Edwin typeface, which are diamond-polished and plated in black gold. These numerals provide a sharp contrast to the delicate pink dial, making the time easy to read while maintaining a refined aesthetic. A sunken subsidiary dial at 6 o’clock displays the seconds, also made from a separate piece of the same mother of pearl, adding depth and visual interest.

The watch features new solid, bevelled Fears Pipette hands, which are also plated in black gold to match the numerals. The hands are designed to offer clarity and contrast against the mother of pearl dial, ensuring that the time is always easy to read despite the reflective nature of the dial material.

Case & Movement

The Brunswick 38 Orchid uses Fears’ updated 38mm cushion-shaped case, which offers improved water resistance up to 100 meters, making it a more practical option for everyday wear. The case design remains true to the Brunswick collection, with its smooth curves and balanced proportions. The crown is signed with the Fears Cypher, a detail that reinforces the brand’s historical identity.

Case Dimensions:

  • Diameter: 38mm
  • Lug-to-lug: 43mm
  • Height: 11.25mm
  • Lug width: 20mm

One of the key updates in this model is the open caseback, which allows wearers to view the La Joux-Perret D100 movement inside. This top-grade movement features traditional Swiss finishing, including Côtes de Genève stripes, Rhodium plating, and blued screws. The D100 is known for its reliability and accuracy, making it a fitting choice for this elegant timepiece.

Strap & Bracelet

The Brunswick 38 Orchid comes on a Storm Grey strap made from Alcantara, a high-quality material known for its soft texture and durability. The grey color complements the pink dial without overshadowing it, providing a subtle and versatile look. For those seeking a different option, the watch is also available with a 5-link stainless steel bracelet, offering a more formal, metallic finish.

Pricing & Availability

The Brunswick 38 Orchid is available now at collectivehorology.com. It is priced at $3,850 on a handmade leather strap. A 5-link stainless steel bracelet is available for $425.
