Sartory-Billard's Production Watches Sing in the Metal
Some watches really have to be experienced in person. The Sartory-Billard SB04-E collection, particularly the Ruby Platinum and Tantalum Hand-Engraved models, falls into this category. So as soon as we were able to get our hands on both for Live Photos and video, we jumped at the chance.
Ruby Platinum: Contrast & Character
The Ruby Platinum derives its name from the solid ruby piece at the center of the dial and the platinum plating on the outer portion. The ruby center displays natural grain patterns that change as light moves across its surface. This central element is paired with a platinum-plated outer dial featuring a sunray fumé finish, creating a notable contrast between the two materials.
The dial includes diamond-cut indices that reflect light effectively. Luminous material appears on the minute track and alternating hour markers (1, 3, 5, etc.), as well as on the hour and minute hands.

Tantalum Hand-Engraved: Texture & Craftsmanship
The Tantalum Hand-Engraved model uses solid tantalum for its dial. The center has a hand-hammered finish created by Armand Billard himself, giving each piece a distinctive textured appearance. The outer dial is also made of solid tantalum with a sunray fumé finish. Though tantalum is known for its weight, this model is only 5 grams heavier than the Ruby Platinum version, weighing in at 98.3g compared to 93g.
Wearability & Details
Both watches share the same case dimensions: 39.5mm in diameter, 10.3mm in height, and a 46mm lug-to-lug measurement, making them suitable for a wide range of wrist sizes.
Several thoughtful details enhance the design. Both crowns contain luminous material, which in the case of the Ruby Platinum complements its white rubber strap. And where the lugs meet the case, scalloped channels add visual interest to the overall form.
The SB04-E series represents an important milestone for Sartory-Billard. After years of creating bespoke timepieces with hundreds of unique dial designs, these are the watches the brand has decided to produce in larger qauntities. Given all the brand has created for collectors, that should tell us something. Plus, these watches are just flat-out beautiful.
