Guilloché, Meet Torch

The MING × J.N. Shapiro 37.06 Lightning is the first watch from two founding members of the Alternative Horological Alliance, and a genuine four-hand collaboration. Every dial begins in Josh Shapiro's Los Angeles workshop, where it's engine-turned by hand in grade-2 titanium using a "Lightning" guilloché pattern, then travels to Kuala Lumpur, where Ming Thein heat-colors each one by hand with a butane torch — no paint, no lacquer, just heat and timing. The result is a polychromatic dial of deep blue, purple, and orange-yellow where no two are exactly alike. The process is unforgiving enough that only about one in three dials survives, which is why each caseback is engraved "DIAL HAND MADE BY J.N. SHAPIRO & MING THEIN."
