First Look at the Fears Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour – Coral Lacquer and Raven Black

Fears' Most Anticipated Collection Has Arrived

Fears has officially added the Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour to its core collection of cushion-cased timepieces. This model introduces a 40.5mm case and a jump hour complication, combining modern movement technology with Fears’ hallmark design. The jump hour module, designed in collaboration with Christopher Ward, allows the hours to be displayed digitally in a window at 12 o’clock, while a central hand tracks the minutes in a traditional analog format. This marks the continuation of Fears’ partnership with Christopher Ward, which first came to light in January 2023 with the Alliance 01—a limited edition watch supporting the Alliance of British Watch & Clockmakers.

Design Evolution: From Alliance 01 to Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour

The Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour takes clear inspiration from the Alliance 01 in terms of its cushion-shaped case, but it is more than just a reissue. While the Alliance 01 was a limited edition watch available exclusively to Alliance Club members, the Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour is now part of the Fears core collection, making it more widely available.

        Case Dimensions:

        • Diameter: 40.5mm
        • Lug-to-lug: 47mm
        • Height: 12.8mm
        • Lug width: 20mm

The design has evolved to include a newly signed crown featuring the Fears Cypher, a subtle nod to the brand’s historic roots. The cushion case itself has a smooth, flowing design, giving it a classic look while ensuring it sits comfortably on the wrist. One of the most notable updates is the modified dial layout. The central feature of the dial is the large circular window at 12 o’clock, where the bright white disc shows the current hour, printed in glossy black. Fears has used its custom 'Edwin' typeface for the numerals, designed specifically to be legible within the circular window. The hour disc advances instantaneously at the top of each hour, creating a satisfying mechanical action.

Beyond the hour complication, the minute track has also been revised. The minute numerals are printed clearly around the dial’s outer ring, and different finishes are applied to enhance the overall look. The dial's textures provide a visual contrast between the smooth hour disc, the applied minute ring, and the subtle finishing details in the center of the dial.

Dial Options: Raven Black, Coral Lacquer, and Mallard Green

The Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour is available in two distinct dial colors, each bringing its own character to the design:

Raven Black – This dial takes inspiration from the deep, reflective black feathers of a raven. The outer section of the dial features a sunburst pattern that catches the light, while the inner part has a fine concentric CNC guilloché pattern that adds depth. The hour and minute frames are Rhodium-plated, with a mix of hand-polished and brushed finishes. The minute ring is circularly brushed and hand-painted black, with white minute numerals that stand out clearly against the dark dial.

Coral Lacquer – The Coral Lacquer dial is built up from multiple layers of lacquer, resulting in a rich and smooth coral finish. This striking color is highly polished, and the black printing on the dial seems to float on its surface, adding contrast. The applied minute markers and other elements are finished in a deep black, and white minute numerals enhance legibility against the bold coral backdrop.

          Bracelet and Strap Options

The Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour is offered on either a handmade leather strap or a 5-link stainless steel bracelet. The bracelet design mirrors the style of those used on the Brunswick 38 and Brunswick 40, featuring alternating rows of brushed and polished links. The screw links allow for easier adjustment, and the inclusion of shorter links provides finer sizing for better comfort on the wrist. Fears has continued its attention to detail with the bracelet’s butterfly clasp, which is engraved with the Fears Cypher on the outer surface. Inside the clasp, an enamel-filled ‘Bristol Flower’ emblem is a subtle tribute to Fears’ British heritage.
