Arcanaut and Collective Pay Tribute to New York City with an Oxidized Copper Dial
The Arcanaut ARC II Liberty Green, an exclusive timepiece created for Collective Horology, pays homage to New York City and the Statue of Liberty. This limited-edition watch, restricted to 100 pieces, features a unique copper carbonate dial that mimics the verdigris of the iconic statue, a material formed from the natural oxidation of copper, giving the monument its distinctive green hue.
An Ode to Liberty
Having been born and raised in New York City, we have long sought to create a timepiece that honors our hometown. The launch date coincides with a significant historical moment: Exactly 100 years ago, President Calvin Coolidge declared the Statue of Liberty a national monument. To celebrate this milestone, Collective collaborated with Danish watchmaker Arcanaut to release the Arcanaut ARC II Liberty Green, a tribute to one of the world’s most iconic symbols of freedom.
The statue’s symbolism and beauty inspired the design of the Liberty Green, particularly its remarkable dial. Made from an in-house developed copper carbonate composite, the dial echoes the verdigris that naturally forms on the statue’s copper surface due to oxidation. This process occurs when copper reacts with air and moisture over time, creating a beautiful patina. The Liberty Green dial is combined with UV-resistant binding agents to maintain its vibrant color while staying true to the statue’s iconic appearance. CNC-machined for precision, the dial also features twelve LumiCast hour markers that provide depth and ensure legibility in low-light conditions.
The Arc II Case and Ergonomics
The Liberty Green is housed in Arcanaut’s celebrated 40.52mm ARC II case, made from 316L stainless steel. Known for its excellent wearability and ergonomics, the case has dimensions that make it suitable for most wrists. The proportions—40.5mm in diameter, 49mm lug-to-lug, and 13mm in height (including the crystal)—ensure comfort without compromising style.
Arcanaut’s distinctive Scandinavian case design complements the clean of the dial, with each piece engraved with “One of 100,” underscoring its limitation.
Glowpatch Case Back: The Flame of Liberty
On the reverse side, the Liberty Green features Arcanaut’s proprietary Glowpatch case back, offering a unique artistic touch. The case back depicts an anthropomorphic Flame of Liberty, streaking across the surface and surrounded by stars. This artistic interpretation of the statue’s torch reinforces the watch’s thematic connection to the ideals of liberty and enlightenment. This glow-in-the-dark detail adds an extra layer of visual intrigue to the watch and emphasizes the connection between past and present.
Limited and Exclusive
The Arcanaut ARC II Liberty Green is limited to only 100 pieces, making it an incredibly exclusive offering. Once sold out, no additional units will be produced, ensuring that each owner possesses a truly unique collector's item. Available for pre-order on October 15, 2024, at a price of $4,400 (excluding taxes), the watch will be shipped internationally, allowing collectors around the world to share in this homage to New York City.
