The oil in the Type 3 isn't a gimmick, it's the mechanism. Matched to the sapphire dome's refractive index, it kills glare and parallax entirely, so the discs read cleanly from any angle. Most sub-dials on a watch exist to show you something decorative — a moon phase, a second time zone you'll rarely check. This one shows you something real: a live mechanical thermometer reading the oil that's doing the actual work, sitting right next to the hours and minutes. Nothing on this dial is there just to fill space. It's an instrument panel for the system that makes the watch work the way it does.
