Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is Collective?

Collective Horology creates collaborative watches for enthusiasts, and retails independent brands with limited distribution in the US. Since our founding in 2018, Collective has produced watches together with brands including IWC Schaffhausen, Czapek, URWERK, H. Moser & Cie., Zenith, Armin Strom and J.N. Shapiro. Collective Shop is an authorized retailer for Arcanaut, Fears, Formex, James Lamb as well as J.N. Shapiro rings and watches.

How do I become a member?

Membership opens up whenever Collective releases a new collaborative watch. In particular, customers who purchase a new collaborative watch from either the Collective or Portfolio Series can join Collective as members if they choose. (Other watches sold by Collective Shop, including retail exclusives, do not include membership.)

After completing your purchase, you’ll receive an email from Collective Membership within 24 hours with instructions on how to activate your membership and join.

Please Note: Members who join Collective agree to our Community Guidelines, which are primarily focused on treating one another with respect.

What are the benefits of membership?

Collective membership includes the following benefits:

  • Collective Collaborations – first access to all Collective collaborations
  • Collective First Access – early access to Collective Shop exclusives and new releases
  • Member Events – virtual and in-person member events
  • Member Group – private Facebook group, where we have respectful conversations about watches
  • Certified Pre-owned – if you’re based in the US and considering selling one of your Collective watches, we would be happy to make you an offer

Do I have to be a member to purchase a Collective collaboration or another watch from Collective Shop?

No. You do not need to be a Collective member to purchase our collaborations or any other watch from Collective Shop. However, only new Collective collaborative watches (i.e., Collective or Portfolio Series) include membership.

Why is purchasing a collaborative watch required for membership?

The sale of watches funds Collective’s operations, allowing us to deliver a high-quality membership experience and cover the costs associated with product development.

Will there be future opportunities for membership?

Yes. We offer membership with the launch of each of our collaborations in the Collective and Portfolio Series.

Are there other costs or dues for membership?

No. The purchase of a watch is all that’s required to become a member of Collective. There are no additional costs or dues.

How do I renew or maintain membership?

The purchase of a Collective watch is all that’s required for membership. Beyond that, there are no costs, dues or fees.

What are the rules for membership?

Members who join Collective agree to our Community Guidelines, which are primarily focused on treating one another with respect.

Is membership in Collective confidential?

Yes. We will never share your identity or personal information without your consent. And will ask all members to keep one another’s identities private.

Is Collective only for Silicon Valley-area residents?

No. We welcome members from around the world. While Collective started in the San Francisco Bay Area, we have members around the world, with hubs in the US and UK.

Will there be events in my local area?

At the moment, our in person events are typically in our hubs: the US (primarily California and New York) as well as the UK (London). However, we host virtual events for all members, and plan to expand our in person events as membership grows around the world.
